The Recent Antiquarian Acquisitions blog features new additions of early materials to the Lewis Walpole Library’s collection. Suggestions and comments are welcome.
The Lewis Walpole Library is a research center for eighteenth-century studies and an essential resource for the study of Horace Walpole and Strawberry Hill. Its collections include important holdings of eighteenth-century British prints, drawings, manuscripts, rare books, paintings, and decorative arts, as well as a growing collection of sources for the study of New England Native Americans. Given to Yale by Wilmarth Sheldon Lewis (1895-1979) and Annie Burr Lewis (1902-1959), the Lewis Walpole Library is located in Farmington, Connecticut, in several eighteenth-century buildings on a thirteen-acre campus. The Lewis Walpole Library is a department of Yale University Library, open to researchers by appointment.
Additional information about the Lewis Walpole Library and its collections can be found at the Lewis Walpole Library’s Website and in Orbis, the online catalog of Yale University’s Library. The Lewis Walpole Library’s Digital Images Collection is a further resource for visual exploration of the holdings. It features images of a significant portion of the Library’s British caricatures and satirical prints and drawings from the late seventeenth- through the mid-nineteenth centuries as well as other important pieces in the collection, many related to Horace Walpole and his house Strawberry Hill.
